Warren County 4-H Youth Fair
The 2018 Warren County Fair continued to support youth development as the primary focus of the annual fair. Twenty Teen Superintendents and Fair Assistants oversaw the cleaning, sprucing up, and set up of the youth building, judging area, display area, and the most AWESOME little tag sale this side of the Schroon River.
Special thanks to Weston for being the ADK Guide Supervisor, Will for being the ADK Guide Supervisor Apprentice, Taylor for being the Tag Sale Supervisor, and Julianna for being the Superintendent Supervisor!
If you had the opportunity this summer to visit the Warren County Youth Fair, you likely witnessed 4-H youth working, exhibiting projects, providing leadership to younger 4-H’ers, and having fun. The opportunities for fun, learning and leadership did not stop here. Teens who qualified through membership in 4-H, completion of projects, and demonstrating leadership qualities travelled to the 2018 New York State Fair in Syracuse in August to represent Warren County 4-H.
Warren County youth hosted an insect making craft activity and helped youth make 300 insects from upcycled bottle caps. The bugs had hand-colored wings, two or more eyes, and antennae or tails based on the child’s interest. This craft went along with a pollinator identification game, where youth placed the insects they knew to be pollinators on flowers.
In addition, four of our six NYS youth served as Teen Leaders in areas that included: project evaluations, sustainable energy, and Shooting Sports as well as assisting with the 1st 4-H Day at the NYS Fair in Chevy Court. During both the Warren County Youth Fair and NYS Fair youth exemplified teamwork, inclusiveness, and cooperation while representing the county and the4-H program.
